Chat Over Chai

Our support groups are currently focussed on grief and loss of a family member, dating in South Asian Culture, The “In-Law” Dilemma, Beauty Standards in South Asian Culture, and LGBTQ South Asian Identity.

Our peer-led support groups are offered as a forum and safe space where individuals can come together to share their stories, experiences, and lives in a way that helps reduce isolation and loneliness. Oftentimes, it can be burdensome and isolating to think we are struggling alone, but support groups help us see that there are others who may be dealing with similar situations and who in turn can help us get better.

Our support groups are open to anyone globally.

South Asian Beauty Standards

Many of us grapple with unrealistic or what we deem to be unfair beauty standards. These beauty standards are a result of Colorism -  fairness creams, being 'allowed to go out in the sun;' Weight standards - being too skinny or too chubby, different family stressors and pressures to lose weight; Body Hair and pressure to have or not have body hair;

This session is for those who want to discuss the whole "You're good looking for a South Asian" dilemma and implications it may have

Dating in South Asian Culture

This group is for anyone who has ever struggled with dating and would like to join an open forum for such conversations.

Topics we cover include: Balancing dating with career aspirations; Societal pressure on the appropriate age to get married, have kids, etc; Interracial Dating; Clashes dating amongst different South Asian subcultures; Boundaries (or lack thereof) in dating; Dating Apps - and what implications they has; Heartbreak and rejection in the dating space

The "In-Law" Dilemma

Different families and South Asian subcultures have varying traditions, values, and ways of living. Adjusting to a new family and culture may be disorienting, and it's extremely helpful to get insights from others who have been in the same position before.

This support group is for men and women who may have difficulty adjusting to another family, members of the family, or cultures of another family.

South Asian LGBTQ Identity

Discussing issues related to the LGBTQ community is still considered taboo in many South Asian households. Although queer South Asian representation has recently grown, with many South Asian American celebrities identifying as part of the LGBTQ community, more work needs to be done to foster inclusiveness.

This support group is for anyone who identifies as LGBTQ who would like to discuss their experiences in a safe space or any allies who would like to listen and contribute to the discussion.
